What is a Password Generator?

A password generator is a tool that creates random, complex passwords to help you secure your online accounts. Our generator uses cryptographic randomness to produce passwords that are virtually impossible to guess or crack through brute‑force attacks. With adjustable length and character sets, you can tailor each password to meet specific security requirements.

How to Use This Password Generator

  1. Adjust the length – Drag the slider left or right to set a password length between 4 and 64 characters.
  2. Select character types – Check or uncheck the boxes for uppercase, lowercase, digits, and symbols.
  3. Generate a password – Click the Generate button or press the Enter key.
  4. Copy to clipboard – Click the Copy button to save the password for immediate use.
  5. Check the strength meter to ensure your password is robust enough for your needs.

How Password Strength is Calculated

Password strength is determined by entropy – a measure of unpredictability. Entropy is calculated using the formula:

Entropy (bits) = log₂( Character Pool Size Password Length )

For example, a 16‑character password using uppercase, lowercase, digits, and symbols (pool size ≈ 88) has an entropy of about 104 bits – considered very strong. Our strength meter classifies passwords as:

  • Weak – Entropy < 30 bits
  • Fair – Entropy 30–50 bits
  • Strong – Entropy 50–70 bits
  • Very Strong – Entropy ≥ 70 bits

We recommend aiming for at least Strong (50+ bits) for most accounts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this password generator safe to use?

Absolutely. Every password is generated locally in your browser using the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues()). No data is ever transmitted to a server, and we do not store any passwords.

What password length should I use?

For most online services, a password of 16–20 characters with a mix of character types provides excellent security. For highly sensitive accounts (e.g., banking, email), consider 20+ characters.

Should I include symbols in my password?

Yes, including symbols significantly increases the character pool, making your password exponentially harder to crack. We recommend enabling symbols for all critical accounts.

Can I use this password generator on my phone?

Yes! The tool is fully responsive and optimized for mobile devices. It works seamlessly on smartphones, tablets, and desktops with touch‑friendly controls.

How do I save a generated password?

Use the Copy button to copy the password to your clipboard, then paste it into your password manager or save it securely. We recommend using a reputable password manager like Bitwarden, 1Password, or LastPass.

What if I forget my password?

This tool does not store passwords. If you forget a generated password, you will need to reset it using the website's "Forgot Password" feature. Always save passwords in a secure password manager.

Why does the strength meter change?

The strength meter updates in real time based on your password's entropy. Longer passwords and larger character sets produce higher entropy, resulting in a stronger password and a higher strength rating.

  1. Today, I went to the beach front with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it
to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell
to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic
but I had to tell someone!
